CIDA International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) in The Gambia

Dalhousie University's Faculty of Architecture & Planning invites applicants for the Canadian International Development Agency International Youth Internship Program. This is an employment program for Canadian citizens or permanent residents (ages 19-30 inclusive). Dalhousie University has been awarded 10 internship placements (two per academic term/four per academic year) for the period of August 2010 to January 2012. These placements will offer graduates of Canadian professional programs in architecture, planning, and environmental engineering the opportunity to gain valuable international development work experience within the new Bachelor of Community Building & Design program at the Gambia Technical Training Institute, Banjul, The Gambia, West Africa. The BCBD is an undergraduate degree program in which most of the teaching/learning is project based, and in which The Gambia and its people are boradly speaking the subjects of study (for more, see http://architectureandplanning.dal.ca/architecture/visitors/gambia.shtml). Interns are required to serve as sessional lecturers for the coming terms. Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, intelligence, empathy, endurance, ingenuity, creativity, ability to work in teams, and the quality and reach of the professional and field experience they will have gained in their undergraduate and graduate programs. Evidence of character will be demonstrated through written expressions of interest and letters of reference.
